The latest issue of The Heroic Age is now online. It contains the usual interesting mix of articles dealing with early medieval topics, plus a good selection of book reviews. HA is a free, peer-reviewed electronic journal with close links to the academic community. Many of its articles are written at the cutting edge of research, a place where the raw data of medieval studies are constantly being reviewed and re-interpreted.
In the current issue my personal highlights are John Ashton’s fascinating article on the Viking board-game Hnefatafl and Jonathan Jarrett’s perceptive review of a recent book on King Edgar (the 10th century English king, not his later Scottish namesake).
